Families that read together grow together

Seven (7) free literacy sessions are provided for parents with children age 0-5, including expecting parents.

Sessions offer parents tips on ways to encourage school readiness through Early Literacy. Tips are based on each unique case.

Parent And Child Together Time (PACT Time) Activity

Parents and their children work together using creativity- and imagination-building tools provided by caseworkers. Activities directly correlate with the book assigned to each session.

Parent Education

Parents are educated on:

  • Non-verbal communication
  • Family dynamics
  • Nutrition
  • Among other topics are discussed during the sessions.

Each session has a different subject matter, providing varied information depending on the topic of the week. Each session and topic is tailored to your family and need.

In completing the seven-session sequence, children are rewarded with an “Imagination is Reading” Kit which includes books, crayons, scissors, and craft supplies, along with a certificate of completion.

Adult Education

Parents are given tips to reach their professional and educational goals, tips ranging from job training and English literacy to obtaining citizenship.

How can I enroll into the Early Literacy program?

You can enroll in the program by calling us and setting up a meeting with one of our friendly case workers.

How long is the program?

The program is for 7 weeks. One session a week for an hour.

Where is the program held at?

The sessions are held at your home or where it is more convenient for you and your child.

What do I need to bring?

The case worker would provide all the materials for each session.

How much does it cost?

The Early Literacy program is free of cost.

What are the requirements to enroll in the program?

The only requirement are: Must be an Imperial Valley resident child(ren) and must be ages 5 and under.

Are literacy sessions only in English?

No. All case workers in the program are bi-lingual in English and Spanish.
